I’ve been quiet lately, and I want to share why.

My senior pup, Finnick, had health issues for a long while. I’d been managing them as best I could, but he declined quickly in May. I spent the last stretch of his life with my family, focused on comfort, connection, and saying goodbye. When he passed away, I took bereavement leave—and it’s been a hard, tender time.

Finn was more than just my dog. He was my companion through so many seasons of life, and a big reason I do the work I do. Much of what I teach about dogs—empathy, partnership, patience—I learned from him. He was a good, brave boy.

Grieving a beloved animal is real and deep. In fact, 85% of pet guardians report symptoms of grief that mirror the loss of a close family member, and for many, that grief continues for months or even years. I’ve felt this truth in my own heart—and I know many of you have too.

If you’ve gone through a season like this, or are in one now, I want to say: it’s okay to pause. It’s okay to tend to your heart first. There is no timeline for grief.

I’m easing myself back into work now—slowly. Some days are better than others, and I’m giving myself permission to move at a pace that allows space for healing. That said, I am committed to continuing this work. To my clients, my followers, my subscribers, and this wider community of thoughtful pet parents: thank you for your patience. I’m still here with you.
